Die humanitäre Hilfe durch tausende Ehrenamtliche hat in den letzten Monaten stark zugenommen in Deutschland. Viele Menschen packen an, was erfreulich ist. Aber eine Hilfe ohne das Empowerment der Betroffenen kann das eigentliche Problem nicht lösen. Sie lenkt von der Auseinandersetzung mit den auch hier in Europa selbst erzeugten Fluchtursachen ab. Gleichzeitig neigt humanitäre Hilfe zum Paternalismus und stellt ein Risiko für die Selbstbestimmung geflüchteter Menschen dar. Ihre politischen Forderungen werden durch die großflächig geleistete humanitäre Hilfe untergraben. Kritisch zu betrachten ist ebenso die Rolle des Staates, der die ehrenamtliche Hilfe zu instrumentalisieren versucht.
Rex Osa wird zunächst die vergangene Entwicklung im Kampf der Selbstbestimmung der Geflüchteten nachzeichnen, um dann auf den Zuwachs des unpolitischen ehrenamtlichen Engagments im Flüchtlingsbereich einzugehen. Im Anschluss wollen wir diskutieren, wie praktische Solidarität mit geflüchteten Menschen aussehen könnte.
Rex Osa ist refugee Aktivist und lebt seit 2005 in Deutschland. Er ist aktiv in dem Netzwerk der Karawane für die Rechte von Flüchtlingen und Migrant*innen. Eine zweite Person wird die Situation von geflüchteten Frauen darstellen.

Humanitarian aid provided by thousands of volunteers has increased heavily during the last couple of months. A lot of people are willing to participate in helping, which is pretty commendable. However, just helping without supporting the empowerment process of the people that all this help is about isn't supposed to solve the actual problem. It prevents us from confronting the causes of flight that are manufactured in Europe itself to a huge extent. At the same time, humanitarian aid tends to be paternalistic and therefore poses a threat to the refugees' self-determination. Their political aims are being undermined by this kind of humanitarian aid. At the same time, we need to examine critically the state's instrumentalization of these efforts.
Rex Osa will present the history of the self-organised refugee movement in Germany and then continue to describe the rise of the unpolitical humanitarian commitment for refugees. After the presentation we want to discuss how to put solidarity with refugees into practice.
Rex Osa is a refugee activist who has been residing in Germany since 2005 and who is active in the networks The VOICE Refugee Forum and Caravan for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants. There will be a second person presenting the situation of refugee women.
